Embracing the New Music Educator (Mentoring)

The Eastern District would like to invite all new teachers, not so new teachers, and veteran teachers to join our mentor program! We gather several times during the year to have professional development sessions, watch concerts, and discuss our practice.

This year the Embracing the New Music Educator program will be combined with our Peer Concert calendar. Please join us for one or more of the following events! If you would like to volunteer one of your concerts please visit the MMEA-ED website.

MMEA Eastern District PDP's:
This year MMEA Eastern District Members can receive Professional Development Points for attending 10 or more hours of Eastern District activities and completing the written reflection form.
  • PDP Eligible events include the following: General Music Festival, Senior Festival Rehearsals/Concerts, Junior Festival Rehearsals/Concerts and all ETNME meetings.
  • Please sign in at each event you attend.
  • In order to qualify for PDP's you must attend 10 or more hours of Eastern District activities. A maximum of 15 PDP's (1 per hour) will be awarded.
  • A final project is required; this will be a Google form in which you answer the following questions. 1. Please share one teaching (or conducting) strategy/technique you observed during an MMEA-ED event. How do you see yourself incorporating this strategy/technique into your teaching. 2. Please share one piece of repertoire you observed during an MMEA-ED event. What are the challenges of this piece of music? Based on your observations what techniques would you use to teach this repertoire to your students?
  • Forms must be completed by June 15
  • PDP Certificates will be sent via email.
