Festival Information
Rehearsals
We will be hosting the Treble Chorus Festival (rehearsal and performance) on Saturday, March 28th from 9:00am-3:30pm (Snow Date: Sunday, March 29th) at Dedham Middle School.

In addition, there will be one pre-festival rehearsal. Participating singers should plan to attend the rehearsal on Saturday, March 14th (Snow Date: March 15th) from 9:00am-12:30pm at Lincoln-Sudbury High School

Students must attend rehearsals with a group chaperone. It is highly recommended that the child's music teacher participates.

Eligibility
Any student who lives in the Eastern District, participates in music instruction, and is in 4th, 5th or 6th grade during the 19-20 school year is eligible to participate.

  • In an effort to provide an equitable way for as many schools as possible to participate, the selection is based off of your recommendation and data from your schools enrollment.
  • The amount of students a teacher can recommend will be based on School enrolment in each grade level: 4th, 5th, and 6th
  • For the first 100 students in the grade, teachers may recommend up to 3 singers to participate in the chorus.
  • For each additional 1-50 students in a school's total enrollment of students in a grade, a teacher may recommend up to 1 additional student to the chorus.

Here is an example of school eligibility by grade:

Selection
The Chorus will be comprised of 4th, 5th, and 6th graders, chosen by teacher recommendation

Music teachers should ONLY recommend students who:
Are respectful and responsible in the music classroom and in rehearsal
Consistently use head voice while singing and accurately match pitch
Have excellent tone quality and breath support
Are able to read and perform basic, standard music notation
Are able to receive feedback and adapt to cues of a conductor
Are full of energy and enthusiasm for music and singing
Will attend both the pre-festival rehearsal and attend the festival on March 23rd (Snow date: March 24th)

Cost
The registration fee is $0. The festival fee is $25, which includes a t-shirt. Admission for concert is $5.

Music Preparation
Teachers will help students prepare their music and choreography at their home school. Recorded practice tracks will be available in February on the Eastern District General Music website (http://www.mmeaeasterndistrict.org/gen_music.htm ) Practicing at home with recordings is a great way for students and parents to be involved in the responsibility of preparing for the festival.

The following forms should be brought into the first rehearsal (or mailed prior to the first rehearsal):
1) Student Registration Forms
2) Student Fees
3) Principal Form
4) Chaperone From

We are so excited to have this festival in our district. We hope that you take advantage of this amazing experience. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2nd Eastern District General Music Treble Chorus!

Sincerely,

Blake Siskavich, Youth Treble Chorus Manager MMEA Eastern District
